The 15 Best Cozy Games on Steam (Including 3 Free Ones)

Stardew Valley farm in summer with rows of crops, a farmhouse and a barn

My Switch list is all about curling up on the couch. This one is for the other half of my cozy life: the PC sitting right there on my desk. Some of my favorite cozy games on Steam aren’t even meant to be played full-screen. They live in a corner while I answer emails, a little farm or a lofi spirit keeping me company. A console can’t do that, and it’s the reason I wanted a proper Steam list.

So here are the best cozy games on Steam right now. Farming sims, builders with zero pressure, a few story games that will make you cry, a couple of desktop companions, and three free picks at the end. Steam Deck owners: I’ve marked every game Verified or Playable, straight from Steam’s own compatibility check.

Cozy Farming & Life Sims on Steam

A lot of farming sims are born on PC first. Two of these are Steam-first, and the other is the one that started it all for me.

Stardew Valley farm in summer with rows of crops, a farmhouse and a barn

1. Stardew Valley (2016)

Grandpa leaves you his overgrown farm, and you clear it plot by plot while slowly becoming part of Pelican Town. Grow crops, fish, mine, befriend (and maybe marry) the locals, and restore the Community Center one bundle at a time. Friends can join in co-op, too.

I have sunk hundreds of hours into this game since 2016 and I’m still not done. It’s on everything, but I’ll say it: PC is the definitive way to play, because of mods. A few quality-of-life tweaks or a whole new region can make a tenth playthrough feel fresh, and my Stardew Valley mods guide walks you through the setup.

Play this one if you:
– Somehow haven’t yet (I won’t judge. Much.)
– Want a farming sim you can mod into exactly the game you want
– Like a game that respects your evenings and your 2 a.m.s equally

Fields of Mistria farmer tending crops beside the colorful town of Mistria

2. Fields of Mistria (2026)

An earthquake has left the little town of Mistria in rough shape, so you move in, take over a farm, and help rebuild. There’s farming, mining, fishing, animals, a bit of magic, and a cast of very charming townsfolk to get to know (and romance). The ’90s anime look makes it feel like a game I would have rented as a kid.

This was the Steam farming sim of Early Access, and it finally hit 1.0 on August 5, 2026. Honestly, that’s half the reason I wrote this list now. If you’ve been waiting for it to be “done,” it’s done! It’s my top pick when friends ask what to play after Stardew, and it earned its spot on my games like Stardew Valley list. One heads-up: it’s Windows and Linux only for now. No Mac, no console version yet.

Play this one if you:
– Have watched every ’90s anime opening on YouTube at least twice
– Want a farming sim with real heart in its characters
– Like your Stardew with a sprinkle of magic

Round, cute Bobo creatures wearing hats in the seaside town of Bobo Bay

3. Bobo Bay (2026)

Bobos are round little creatures, and your job is to train them, dress them up and breed new generations, then enter them in competitions called Trials. Between events you sail out to randomly generated islands for supplies and fund public works projects that grow the town and unlock new shops.

If you ever lost a summer to the Chao Garden, this is your game. It came out in April 2026 and it’s still flying under the radar; the big lists haven’t caught up yet. It’s a smaller indie and Windows only, but players adore it. Putting a tiny creature in a hat for a competition is about as cozy as it gets.

Play this one if you:
– Still think about your Chao (same)
– Love collecting, breeding and showing off cute creatures
– Want a new indie that isn’t on every other list yet

Cozy Building Games for PC (No Wrong Answers)

I open these when my brain is too full for goals. Nobody times you, nothing fails, and nobody tells you that you built it wrong. It’s just you and something pretty taking shape.

Tiny Glade stone castle with ivy-covered towers and a winding path on a green meadow

4. Tiny Glade (2024)

Drag out a wall, plop down a house, pull a tower taller, and the game fills in the rest: arched windows, ivy, little stone paths, sheep. There are no goals, no resources and no way to fail. You build a castle diorama until it feels right, then take a picture of it.

To me, this is peak “PC cozy.” It’s what I put on when I want to make something lovely without thinking very hard, and the way the stones snap into place is ridiculously satisfying. It’s PC only, so Switch players are missing out on this one.

Play this one if you:
– Have ever said “I just want to make something pretty”
– Love dollhouses, model villages and fairy tale castles
– Want a game with zero pressure, ever

Colorful Townscaper harbor town with stacked houses and arches rising out of the sea

5. Townscaper (2021)

Townscaper hands you open water. Click it and a little seaside house appears; click again and it grows into a tower, a stairway or an arch, while the colorful buildings knit themselves into a town. That’s it! That’s the whole game, and it’s perfect.

It’s more toy than game, and I mean that as a compliment. My favorite 20-minute wind-down before bed, for less than a fancy coffee.

Play this one if you:
– Want a “game” you can’t possibly be bad at
– Love Mediterranean harbor towns
– Need a cheap, perfect thing to unwind with

Dorfromantik countryside built from hexagon tiles with forests, villages, fields and a river

6. Dorfromantik (2022)

It starts with a stack of hexagon tiles, each holding a bit of forest, field, village, river or rail. Place them to build a sprawling countryside, match edges and finish little quests to earn more tiles, and keep going until the stack runs out.

No game I own is more “one more tile” than this. Technically it’s a puzzle game with a score, but it never feels stressful, and creative mode lets you build without the stack running out at all. My landscapes always end up with way too many rivers.

Play this one if you:
– Have ever said “just one more turn” and meant it as a lie
– Like board games like Carcassonne
– Want a puzzle game that feels like a walk in the countryside

Satisfying Chore Games

I don’t know why cleaning a digital skate park relaxes me when I can’t make myself clean my real kitchen, but here we are.

PowerWash Simulator 2 pressure washer spraying a dirty surface clean in a clear stripe

7. PowerWash Simulator 2 (2025)

Muckingham is filthy, which is great news for you. Take jobs around town and blast the grime off everything from houses to vehicles, swapping nozzles and soaps until every last streak is gone. The sequel adds new tools, a home base you can spruce up with furniture and trinkets you collect along the way, and split-screen co-op on top of online play for up to four people.

Few things beat watching a filthy surface turn clean in one sweep, and this sequel comes out of it squeaky clean (sorry). I put on a podcast and just go. It’s also a great co-op game if you have a friend who’s as fussy about the last spot of dirt as you are. Honest note: some players grumble that a few achievements are tied to DLC, but the base game is plenty.

Play this one if you:
– Have ever peeled the plastic off a new screen and felt joy
– Love a podcast game
– Want a co-op game where nobody yells at anybody

Cozy Story Games on Steam (Bring Tissues)

Cozy on the surface, a lot more underneath. Tea and a blanket recommended.

Wanderstop tea shop in a magical forest clearing surrounded by giant plants

8. Wanderstop (2025)

Alta is a champion fighter who keeps losing, and she ends up exhausted at a tea shop in a magical forest. You grow strange plants, brew tea for the odd travelers who wander in, tidy up, and slowly, slowly learn to stop pushing so hard.

Fair warning: this one is about burnout, and it doesn’t pull its punches. It comes from the people behind The Stanley Parable and Gone Home, with music by C418, and it hit me harder than I expected. Not every cozy game is easy. This one is worth it anyway.

Play this one if you:
– Have a to-do list that is also a personality
– Loved Spiritfarer and want to feel things again
– Want a story game that really says something

Tiny Bookshop trailer with shelves of books parked in a sunny seaside town

9. Tiny Bookshop (2025)

Picture a secondhand bookshop in a little trailer, parked somewhere new in a seaside town each day. People stop by, and you recommend them books. Many of the books are real, which makes matching a customer to the right one extra fun.

I already gushed about this one on my Switch list, so I’ll keep this chapter short (pun intended): it’s lovely on PC too, and it runs on Mac and Linux.

Play this one if you:
– Have a TBR pile taller than you are
– Daydream about running a little shop by the sea
– Love small-town stories with a lot of heart

Kind Words cozy room at night with a desk, lofi music and an open letter

10. Kind Words (lo fi chill beats to write to) (2019)

Lofi music plays in a cozy little room while you write anonymous letters to real people. Someone shares a worry, and you write back something kind. Share your own and strangers write back to you. Sometimes they send a sticker.

It’s barely a game, and it’s one of the most wholesome things on Steam. Reading a reply from a total stranger who just wanted you to feel better is a real feeling. It’s PC only, cheap, and nobody else seems to put it on their lists.

Play this one if you:
– Write a mean draft and then delete it (we all do)
– Could use a little kindness from the internet for once
– Want something gentle for a hard week

Desktop Cozy Games (The Most PC Thing Ever)

My favorite section! These games live in a strip on your screen while you work, and they’re the best argument for cozy gaming on PC.

Rusty's Retirement robot farm in a thin strip along the bottom of a desktop screen

11. Rusty’s Retirement (2024)

A retired robot named Rusty farms in a little strip at the bottom (or side) of your screen while you do other things. Plant crops, collect biofuel, build more helper bots, and the farm slowly starts running itself. Check in now and then, then back to the spreadsheet.

I love this one so much it’s also on my games like Stardew Valley list. It’s the perfect “I’m working, but cozily” game. Coming back to a field of ripe crops after a long meeting is a tiny joy.

Play this one if you:
– Need a reason to sit at your desk a little longer
– Love idle games but hate when they nag you
– Think “a small robot farm” is the best four words ever

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions study room with a character at a desk, a focus timer and a spirit companion

12. Spirit City: Lofi Sessions (2024)

Think of it as a lofi study room with a game attached. There’s a focus timer, a to-do list, ambient sounds and music, and a little character studying away next to you. Time spent working earns XP that unlocks new outfits and decorations for your room, and setting the room up just right (fire lit, rain on, the right time of day) lures in cute spirit companions to collect.

A cozy game that actually helps me get things done? That’s pretty much the dream. I’d never pick a productivity app over a game, so I’m glad I don’t have to choose. It runs on Windows and Mac.

Play this one if you:
– Have ever put “make a to-do list” on your to-do list
– Love lofi study streams
– Want cute spirits as a reward for answering emails

Free Cozy Games on Steam

Yes, there are great free cozy games on Steam! These three cost nothing to start, though I’ll be upfront about where the money comes in for two of them.

Bongo Cat wearing a hat and tapping on a keyboard at the edge of a desktop

13. Bongo Cat (2025)

Every time you type or click, a cat on your screen smacks a key. Typing earns you items, mostly hats and accessories for your cat, which you can collect or trade.

Is it a game? Not really. It’s a desktop toy, and there’s no reason to put it on a Steam Deck. But it’s free, it’s silly, and I defy you not to love a tiny cat drumming along to your emails.

Play this one if you:
– Type a lot and want an audience
– Believe every cat deserves a hat
– Want something free and completely harmless

Palia village with players gardening and fishing near cozy cottages

14. Palia (2024 on Steam)

Palia is a free-to-play cozy MMO. You farm, cook, fish, hunt bugs, build a house and befriend the villagers of a fantasy town, either solo or alongside other players. It’s fine alone, but it shines with friends.

If you want an Animal Crossing–style life with your friends on PC, this is the best free option, and it’s on my games like Animal Crossing list. Honest caveat: recent Steam reviews complain about monetization and bugs, so expect a cosmetic shop and the occasional hiccup. On PC it’s Windows only.

Play this one if you:
– Want Animal Crossing with your friends, on PC, for free
– Love cooking and fishing minigames
– Don’t mind ignoring a cosmetic shop

Where to play: Steam | Nintendo Switch | PlayStation | Xbox

The Sims 4 Sims chatting in the backyard of a suburban house with a pool

15. The Sims 4 (2014, free base game)

Sims are little people you create, house and boss around: careers, friendships, romances, babies, and the occasional pool with no ladder. The base game has been free since 2022.

This is the life sim people come to Steam for, and the free base game is a full game. But. The DLC adds up fast, and one sale can turn into “how did I spend that much on packs?” Start with the free game and see if you actually miss anything.

Play this one if you:
– Have ever removed a pool ladder (for science)
– Love building houses more than living in them
– Want a deep life sim for free (DLC willpower not included)

Which Cozy Steam Game Are You Installing First?

If I had to pick, it’d be Fields of Mistria for a long weekend and Rusty’s Retirement for a workday. Want something for the couch instead? My 22 Best Cozy Games for Nintendo Switch has you covered, and my cozy co-op list is for when you want company.

One for your wishlist: Grave Seasons, the horror farming sim, was supposed to arrive this fall, but it’s been delayed to March 9, 2027. Until then, my cozy horror games list has plenty to get you through October. ✨
